The following is a review of the application of methyl tin stabilizers in PVC processing, based on their performance characteristics and industry practices:
1、 Application scenarios and technological adaptability
1. Processing of transparent hard products
Suitable for transparent PVC sheets, boards, high transparency heat shrink films and other products, utilizing its good compatibility with PVC resin, the product’s light transmittance can reach over 90%, and there is no precipitation or yellowing phenomenon.
2. Typical processes: rolling forming, extrusion forming
Recommended formula: Addition amount 1.2-1.6 phr (taking film thickness 0.1-0.3mm as an example)
3. Production of pipes and profiles
Used for building materials such as water supply pipelines and plastic doors and windows, it can suppress the oxidation and decomposition of PVC during processing through long-term thermal stability, and extend the weather resistance life of the products by more than 30%.
4. Food/pharmaceutical packaging field
Compliant with EU ROHS and US ASTM D3421 hygiene standards, used in food grade containers, pharmaceutical packaging bottles, etc., the product’s heavy metal content is below 0.1 ppm.
2、 Comparison of application advantages
Performance dimension | Methyl tin stabilizer | Traditional lead salt stabilizer |
Initial coloring property | Water clear | Prone to yellowing |
Thermal stability efficiency | Long term (≥ 180 ℃ continuous stability) | High risk of mid-term failure |
Safety and environmental friendliness | Long term (≥ 180 ℃ continuous stability | Lead/cadmium pollutants |
Processibility | Compatible with the entire process of hard/soft PVC | Only for hard products |
Note: The data is sourced from a comparison of actual measurements conducted by PVC processing enterprises both domestically and internationally
3、 Optimization strategy for process adaptation
1. Composite system design
Usually used in conjunction with epoxidized soybean oil (3-5 phr) and calcium stearate (0.5-1 phr) to enhance melt flowability and reduce torque values.
2. Temperature control during processing
It is recommended to set the extrusion temperature in sections (160-185 ℃) to avoid the decomposition of thiol groups caused by exceeding 210 ℃.
3. Moisture proof treatment
When storing, the environmental humidity should be kept below 60%. Before processing, the PVC raw materials should be dried at 80 ℃ for 2 hours to prevent hydrolysis failure.
(Note: The product is a colorless viscous liquid and needs to be stored in a sealed manner away from light.)
