CPE, Chlorinated polyethylene, also known as chlorinated polyethylene, is made from specialized high-density polyethylene (HDPE) through a chlorination process. The characteristic of this material is that the hydrogen atoms in its molecular chain are partially replaced by chlorine atoms, presenting a unique chemical structure. The dried CPE appears as a white powder and is non-toxic and safe. Its molecular formula is CH2-CHCl-CH2-CH2] n, abbreviated as CPE or CM in English. As a saturated polymer material, CPE not only has good weather resistance and flame resistance, but also exhibits excellent thermal stability, which is more outstanding than PVC. In addition, it also has the advantages of low cost and excellent performance. In terms of solubility, CPE is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons, but insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons. When the temperature exceeds 170 ℃, it begins to decompose and release hydrogen chloride gas. Due to its stable chemical structure, CPE also exhibits excellent aging resistance, cold resistance, chemical resistance, ozone resistance, and electrical insulation. At the same time, it also has good compatibility and processability, and can be mixed with materials such as PVC, PE, PS, and rubber, effectively improving the physical properties of these materials.
CPE has a wide range of applications in multiple fields
1. Application in waterproofing membrane
CPE enhanced PVC waterproofing membrane, with the excellent characteristics of CPE, has significantly increased its tensile strength by 80% and tear strength by 50%. At the same time, its mechanical weather resistance, low temperature resistance, and aging resistance have also been comprehensively enhanced, and it is highly favored by construction departments (with CPE addition controlled at 10% -15%). In addition, chloroprene rubber CPE waterproofing membrane and chloroprene rubber CPE styrene butadiene rubber waterproofing membrane have become the new generation of ideal waterproofing materials with their high strength, high elasticity, high extensibility, as well as multiple advantages such as corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, cold resistance, aging resistance, and flame retardancy, and have broad market prospects.
2. Production of plastic doors and windows
By blending CPE with PVC, the elasticity, toughness, and low-temperature performance of plastic doors and windows are significantly improved, while also possessing good weather resistance, heat resistance, and chemical stability. This type of plastic door and window is affordable, corrosion-resistant, and comes in a variety of colors. Compared to aluminum alloy doors and windows, it has more advantages and has gradually become a new favorite in the market.
3. Application of wire and cable sheath
The addition of CPE has improved the cathodic combustion performance, anti-aging performance and physical and mechanical properties of wire and cable sheaths. At the same time, wire and cable wrapping materials made mainly of CPE also exhibit excellent performance.
4. Manufacturing of rubber hoses and shoe soles
CPE can manufacture hoses that are resistant to oil, acid, bending, ozone, and Freon, and are suitable for manufacturing hydraulic hoses, cooler hoses, fuel hoses, and more. At the same time, the imitation cowhide sole manufactured with CPE as the main body also demonstrates excellent performance.
