The difference between soft PVC and hard PVC

The difference between soft PVC and hard PVC

PVC can be divided into two materials: hard PVC and soft PVC. The scientific name of PVC is polyvinyl chloride, which is the main component of plastic and is commonly used to make plastic products. It is cheap and widely used. Hard PVC accounts for approximately two-thirds of the market, while soft PVC accounts for one-third. So, what are the differences between soft PVC and hard PVC?

  1. Different degrees of softness and hardness

The biggest difference lies in their different hardness. Hard PVC does not contain softeners, has good flexibility, is easy to form, and is not easily brittle, non-toxic and pollution-free, has long storage time, and has great development and application value. Soft PVC, on the other hand, contains softeners with good softness, but is prone to brittleness and difficulty in preservation, thus its applicability is limited.

  1. The application ranges are different

Due to its good flexibility, soft PVC is generally used for the surface of tablecloths, floors, ceilings, and leather; Hard polyvinyl chloride is mainly used in hard PVC pipes, fittings, and profiles.

3. The characteristics are different

From the perspective of characteristics, soft PVC has good stretching lines, can be extended, and has good resistance to high and low temperatures. Therefore, it can also be used to make transparent tablecloths. The usage temperature of hard PVC generally does not exceed 40 degrees, and if the temperature is too high, hard PVC products may be damaged.

4. The properties are different

The density of soft PVC is 1.16-1.35g/cm ³, The water absorption rate is 0.15~0.75%, the glass transition temperature is 75~105 ℃, and the molding shrinkage rate is 10~50 × 10- ³ cm/cm. Hard PVC typically has a diameter of 40-100mm, smooth inner walls with low resistance, no scaling, non-toxic, pollution-free, and corrosion-resistant properties. The use temperature is not greater than 40 degrees, so it is a cold water pipe. Good aging resistance and flame retardant.
